Rules & regulations Indian citizens need a visa when coming to Germany. Rules and regulations for issue of visa may change with time, so it is very important to clarify all the visa issues before making application. Visas are generally linked to a specific purpose of stay in Germany (i.e. tourist visas, student visas, business visas, etc). Contact your local embassy/consulate for exact requirements for issue of visa. After you enter Germany, all the visa related activities will be dealt by City Hall called Rathaus. Normally, It is a schengen visa which enables you to travel within Schengen countries. The countries under Schengen Agreement are Spain, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. A visa granted by one of the Schengen countries is valid in all other member countries. Countries outside the Schengen Area include Switzerland, United Kingdom & the Channel Islands, Ireland, Morocco, and Gibraltar. All persons, who have a fixed address in Germany, are obliged to register themselves at the local residents? registration office('Meldebehörde') at City Hall. This registration is called Anmeldung. They will give you a copy of your registration (Meldebescheinigung). This registration is to be done within seven days of your arrival in Germany.
