Stuttgart, located the south of Germany, is the capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg with a population of approximately 592,000 as of January 2007. Stuttgart is close to both the Black Forest and the unique Swabian heritage. It is also Widely known as the home of Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. With its moderate climate, Stuttgart is also one of Germany's premiere wine-growing regions.
Important towns located in the Stuttgart Region are Böblingen, Ludwigsburg, Sindelfingen, Esslingen and Göppingen. Stuttgart is one of the most prominent and well-known German towns, especially because of its cultural, administrative and economic importance.
There are approximately 150,000 companies located in the Stuttgart region. The region is known for its high-tech industry; some of its most prominent companies include Daimler, Porsche, Bosch, Hewlett-Packard, Lappkabel and IBM etc.

The Stuttgart region has the highest density of scientific, academic and research organizations in Germany. In addition to famous universities and colleges, the region has also several internationally acknowledged institutes which include the Fraunhofer Institution, institutes for collaborative industrial research at local universities, Max-Planck Institutes and others.

The Stock Exchange of Stuttgart is the second largest in Germany and several important banks and finance centres have their headquarters in Stuttgart including Allianz Life Insurance, LBBW Bank, Deutsche Bank and others.

Stuttgart has a pleasant climate with warm summers, mild winters and an average annual rainfall of about 700 millimetres (28 inches). Temperatures range from around zero degree Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius, with light snowfall in wintertime and a warm summer.
Sports are of big importance in Stuttgart, it is the Home of the first-division football club: 'VfB Stuttgart'. Stuttgart also is the "European Sports Capital 2007".

Neighbouring large cities are Frankfurt (210 km north of Stuttgart) and Munich (220 km southeast of Stuttgart).
Germany has a multicultural society. Large cities, universities and science institutions all live and feed off the cultural diversity this country has to offer. Out of the 82 million living here, over seven million are foreigners. In Stuttgart only, there are people of about 170 nationalities living with wide range of religions and cultures. Overall, the security risk to foreigners in Germany is low.
